To optimize your cartridge alignment for playing standard 12" LP records, follow these steps:

Place the protractor on the turntable spindle.
Move the protractor and the arm so that the stylus is directly above point "A".
Adjust the protractor until the cross lines are parallel to the sides of the cartridge.
Repeat steps 2 and 3, this time aligning the stylus over point "B".
If the angle noted at point "B" is not the same as the angle at point "A", move the cartridge forward or backward and twist it to bring the angles at both "A" and "B" to the same setting.
